Blog

Extinction crisis. Institutional Racism. Climate Change. Pollution. These are scary global problems, but they have practical local solutions.  Through this blog I bring you stories about what we in the southeastern US can do to meet these daunting challenges—especially actions related to the intersectionality of biodiversity with environmental health, climate change, and social justice.

Books

I have written two books to empower readers with the knowledge they need to protect the biodiversity and ecosystems of the southeastern US.  In Southern Wonder:  Alabama’s Surprising Biodiversity (2013) readers learn why Alabama has more species than any state east of the Mississippi River, and why this is so important.  In my newest book, Creek to Coast: Restoring the Rivers at the Heart of America’s Freshwater Biodiversity (publication pending), readers learn why we must restore the Southeast’s rivers to defend the region from the escalating climate crisis.

Outreach

TEDx, recorded talks and interviews, op eds, and more—it’s all here.
